Our founding team began attending college in Chicago in 2015. That November, a dash cam video revealed that 17-year-old Laquan McDonald was shot 16 times by a Chicago police officer. In the aftermath, the city saw a proliferation of facial recognition software, gang databases, and predictive policing tools designed to expedite arrest and incarceration.
In our increasingly technology-dependent criminal justice system, there was a lack of solutions built with empathy for affected communities. That is why we started JusticeText.
As technologists of color, we are committed to strengthening public institutions to ensure criminal legal representation for all Americans, regardless of income.
We are a group of technologists and attorneys with a commitment to racial justice.
